How to Protect Radiators and Pipework during Painting and Plastering

How to Protect Radiators and Pipework during Painting and Plastering

The Real Risk to Radiators And Pipework

Protection is rarely the glamorous part of painting and plastering, yet it is the part clients remember when something goes wrong. Leave radiators and pipework exposed to paint drips, plaster splatter and you are gambling with both the finish and your reputation.

Radiators sit exactly where rollers and sprayers throw the most paint, and left unguarded they quickly pick up paint drips, plaster splatter, roller contact. A purpose-made rigid PP honeycomb sheet spreads point loads across its rigid cellular core, shrugs off knocks, and keeps what is underneath looking exactly as it did before work started.

Installing the Cover Correctly

Begin by making sure you mask or board radiators before spraying. Next, cover valves and pipes. Then protect during wallpapering. To finish, unwrap for the final finish. Those few minutes at the outset prevent the overwhelming majority of avoidable damage.

Do the Maths on Protection

Here is the uncomfortable maths. Dried paint bonded into radiator fins is almost impossible to remove cleanly. A few sheets of twin-wall PP honeycomb board cost a fraction of that and take minutes to lay — the return on that tiny effort is enormous.

The direct bill is only part of the story. Rework pulls labour off the next task, pushes other trades back, and can sour an otherwise smooth job.

Why Rigid Honeycomb Protection Works

Unlike flimsy films or heavy plywood, plastic honeycomb panel hits a sweet spot. It is waterproof, will not rot or delaminate, resists chemicals, and can be wiped clean and reused across many jobs before being recycled at the end of its life.

Boards can be trimmed to size on site with a standard blade, taped at the seams, and lifted just as fast when the work is done — no specialist kit required.

Get the Right Protection for Your Project

Choosing the right board is easier with advice from people who make it. Rulowin offers twin-wall PP honeycomb board across a wide thickness range with bespoke sizing, plus felt or anti-slip facings where extra grip is needed. Request a quotation today.
