Challenges in Textile Logistics
Garments and rolled fabric are light, bulky, and easily creased or soiled. Cardboard cartons absorb humidity in ocean transit and collapse, while polybags generate plastic waste at every store. Rulowin reusable PP packaging keeps textiles clean and shaped through a multi-leg journey from cutting room to retail distribution.
The smooth PP surface does not shed fibres, an important property when packing white or finished goods.
Container Types for Each Stage
At the cut-and-sew stage, ventilated PP totes hold bundled fabric so moisture escapes during steam finishing. For finished garments, collapsible PP hanging bars let 40 shirts travel on hangers and arrive floor-ready, removing a back-room hanging step. Rolled textile up to 1.8 m length ships in a PP tube pallet-sleeve-box/" class="rw-inlink">sleeve with capped ends to prevent crush.
Colour-coded lids separate seasonal lines and reduce pick errors at the DC.
Protecting Against Moisture and Odour
PP is inherently hydrophobic, so a sealed tote protects contents from the 85 percent humidity typical of a 30 day sea voyage. Unlike cardboard, it will not soften or grow mould. A light antimicrobial additive in the skin inhibits odour buildup during return legs carrying empty, slightly damp boxes.
For scent-sensitive lines, a charcoal insert pocket can be added without changing the footprint.
Closing the Loop in Fashion
A Dutch apparel group running 8,000 Rulowin totes across 6 factories and 3 DCs reported a 70 percent drop in carton spend and eliminated 11 tonnes of polybag waste per year. Empty totes nest to 22 percent of their open height, so return freight costs stay low. The same asset IDs feed a replenishment dashboard that flags low garment buffers before a line stops.
Reusable PP turns packaging from a consumable into managed inventory.
Rulowin also offers a collapsible version that folds to 18 percent of its height when empty, useful when return volumes fluctuate with season. A Turkish denim maker used these on its retail replenishment lane and cut return freight by 40 percent versus rigid totes during the low-volume summer window.
For e-commerce fulfilment, the same totes double as pick bins on the warehouse floor and as ship boxes to the store, removing a repack step. Linking the asset ID to the order lets the DC see which stores are short before the truck leaves, improving on-shelf availability.
Brands running seasonal drops value that the same tote presents a consistent, clean image at every store, reinforcing the label without printed cartons. A Scandinavian retailer reported that store staff spent 30 percent less time on delivery unpacking once reusable totes replaced mixed cartons on its flagship lane.
