Why Drop Test Reusables
A reusable container is dropped, not once, but hundreds of times across its life. Drop testing proves it survives that abuse without cracking or losing its lid. Rulowin qualifies every tote design to a defined drop protocol so customers know the real service life, not a marketing claim.

Setting Up the Test
Fill the container to its rated load with a representative product or surrogate bags. Use a rig or marked wall to release the box from the specified height, commonly 600 mm to 1200 mm depending on mass, onto a hard surface such as concrete. Rotate the container so each base corner and one longest side hit the ground across the drop series. Record height, orientation, and any damage after every drop.
Temperature matters: test at both 23 C and minus 10 C, since cold PP is more brittle.
Reading the Results
A pass means no structural crack, lid still latches, and contents stay contained. Minor scuffing is expected and acceptable. Track the drop count at first crack to set a service-life estimate; a Rulowin 50 L tote typically reaches 50 drops at 800 mm with only surface wear. Plot damage against drop number to find the safe retirement point before failure risk rises.

From Test to Specification
Write the protocol and result into the packaging specification so incoming QA repeats it on samples. If your real handling is harsher, ask Rulowin to thicken walls or add corner ribs and re-test. Share the pass height with carriers when you negotiate handling terms, because evidence of a rugged container supports a lower damage-allowance clause. One shipper used its 800 mm drop result to renegotiate the carrier contract and recovered the tote program cost inside a year.
